security shambles as nokia 9 pureview user reveals they can ‘fool its fingerprint sensor with chewing gum’
They claim that the Nokia 9 Pureview update makes its fingerprint scanner completely redundant, meaning that anyone\'s numbers can unlock the 550 gadget.
The problem is so bad that users start sharing videos that are said to show them how to fool the phone
Screen scanner using random objects.
It is said that coins, leather gloves and even chewing gum wrapping paper can unlock Nokia 9, which was only put on shelves last month.
HMD Global, the Finnish company behind Nokia, said it was looking into the issue.
After Nokia released its software update on April 19, users began reporting problems.
Updates that should have fixed previous fingerprint sensor bugs seem to only make things worse.
Twitter user @ decoded has contacted other Pureview 9 fans to see if they are the only ones who have had a problem.
They said: \"Has anyone else in Nokia 9 ever experienced that the fingerprint sensor can\'t authenticate your fingerprint?
For example, press the finger of someone else not set and [sic]will unlock?
This is a huge security breach.
\"The tweeter then posted a video showing them unlocking the phone by pressing the Gum pack on the fingerprint sensor.
The second video seems to show them how many times the wrapper was diverted to the phone before it was unlocked.
\"Quickly and repeatedly tap lightly on any unregistered finger/object on the top/center edge of the fingerprint sensor seems to be a spot,\" they wrote . \".
According to HMD, its researchers failed to replicate the problem.
The company has asked Twitter to send his faulty device for further investigation.
A spokesperson told The Sun: \"We have not been able to reproduce the issue so far, but we will continue to look into it to avoid any doubts and let you know any further
